Join us on Saturday, June 6, 2026, beginning at 10:00 AM (CST) for a full day of engaging Masonic education and fellowship. At the Porter Lodge No. 137: The Triad of Light, we are pleased to feature three distinguished speakers who will explore a variety of fascinating topics:

  • WB and Sir Knight Carson C. Smith, joining us from Indianapolis, will present the captivating story of Rosslyn Chapel, exploring its rich Masonic lore and enduring mystery.
  • WB Scott Dueball, hailing from Chicago will explore the concept of Justice as discussed by early Masonic authors.
  • WB Matthew J. Backus is one of our own and he is a well known educator. he will lead us into deeper understanding of The Way of the Heart.

The Porter Lodge Triad of Light will host this event, which will also include an opening presentation. Please note that the final schedule and order of speakers are subject to change.

Short breaks will be provided between each presentation, with a luncheon served at the conclusion of the program. Refreshments will be available throughout the day. The last day for registration will be May 23, 2026.
This promises to be a day of learning, reflection, and brotherly fellowship that you will not want to miss.

Speakers

Carson C. Smith

W. Bro. Carson C. Smith is a distinguished leader within the fraternity, known for his extensive service and commitment to the Craft. As a Past Master of Century Lodge No. 764 and Lodge Vitruvian No. 767, and current Senior Warden of Crowned Martyrs Lodge No. 771, he has demonstrated consistent administrative excellence, earning the Grand Master’s Award with High Distinction. His service spans the York and Scottish Rites, Murat Shrine, Sahara Grotto, and numerous invitational bodies. He has been recognized with the Distinguished Companion Award, Cryptic Mason of the Year, and the Scottish Rite Meritorious Service Award. Furthermore, his dedication is evidenced by prestigious accolades including HRAKTP, KYCH, KTCH, KCT, KCZ, and KCRBE. Through his leadership and breadth of involvement, W. Bro. Smith remains a vital contributor to the fraternity and a true exemplar of its values.

Scott Duebal

Scott Dueball is an experienced Masonic leader and educator who has held senior roles including State Education Officer for the Grand Lodge of Illinois, Chairman of the Committee on Masonic Education, and Past President of the Midwest Conference of Masonic Education. He has served several terms as Worshipful Master, founded and led Spes Novum Lodge to charter, organized statewide and regional education symposia. His Masonic involvement began in Muncie, IN and spans numerous appendant bodies, including Scottish Rite (both jurisdictions), York Rite, Allied Masonic Degrees, SRICF, the College of Rites, and the Order of the Red Cross of Constantine. Professionally, he serves as General Manager of Forward View Technologies and holds an MBA from Indiana University Kelley School of Business, along with graduate and undergraduate degrees in biomechanics. Scott will explore Justice in the context of the early Masonic authors.

Matthew J. Backus

Matthew James Backus is a cornerstone of Indiana Freemasonry, embodying a lifelong commitment to ritual excellence, leadership, and education. His journey is defined by a relentless pursuit of knowledge and service across all levels of the Craft. In the symbolic Lodge, Matthew’s tenure as Past Master of Garfield Lodge No. 569 and current role as Secretary reflect his devotion to governance. His influence extends through service as a Grand Lodge District Educator and Orator, capped by the Grand Master’s Award with High Distinction. Matthew’s impact is prominent within the York Rite and appendant bodies. From serving as Past Excellent High Priest and Illustrious Master to leadership in the Knight York Cross of Honour and York Rite Sovereign College, he has helped shape the fraternity in Northwest Indiana. His participation in the Societas Rosicruciana and Scottish Rite further reflects his dedication to Masonic philosophy. Whether as Secretary, Governor, or Ritualist, Matthew remains an enduring steward of the Masonic legacy.
