Rodney McGillvary is a Masonic educator and esoteric lecturer whose work bridges traditional Craft Masonry with the deeper currents of Western mystical philosophy. Known for his thoughtful and contemplative approach to symbolism, he has devoted himself to exploring the inner architecture of the degrees and illuminating their alchemical and spiritual dimensions.
As current Worshipful Master of DeKalb Lodge#214, Rodney has been actively engaged in lodge education, degree work, and mentorship. His passion lies not only in ritual excellence but in drawing out the transformative meaning embedded within the ceremonies of the Craft. He is particularly interested in the initiatic journey of the candidate as an allegory of spiritual regeneration.
Rodney is also the co-host of the Pen & Compass Podcast, where he engages in thoughtful conversations with Masonic authors, researchers, and practitioners from across the fraternity. Through this platform, he contributes to ongoing dialogue about symbolism, philosophy, and the living tradition of Freemasonry in the modern world.
Deeply influenced by the alchemical interpretations of Dr. George Washington Carey, Rodney’s studies often integrate Hermetic philosophy, Rosicrucian thought, and esoteric Christianity into a cohesive Masonic framework. His work reflects a commitment to the idea that the Temple is both external and internal, a structure built of living stones within the consciousness of the initiate.
He is also a Past High Priest of William Hacker Chapter #63, Past Illustrious Master of DeKalb Council #57, and Past Commander of Apollo Commandery #19.
Through lectures, writings, and research, Rodney seeks to inspire Masons to look beyond the surface of ritual and rediscover the Craft as a path of illumination, discipline, and inner transformation.
